01/25/2016 | HIMOINSA Racing Team, in the Top 10 at Dakar 2016
A week ago, HIMOINSA Racing Team crossed the finish line in Rosario, Argentina, for a perfect finish. All five team riders finished the race, even managing to place well in the Top 10. Gerard Farrés took 8th place in a very difficult race, in which he managed to stay in the top ten on practically every stage, right from the start. The rider achieved the distinction of 'highest-placing Spanish rider in the race' and, together with the rest of the team, even being called by many as the best private team in the history of the race. Iván Cervantes finished in 16th place in his first Dakar. With a wealth of experience in the world of enduro racing, where he won practically everything, he took on the race, finishing in seventh place on the last special stage. On crossing the line, he was clearly very happy: “Here we are, I can't believe it. As much as I'd heard, Dakar is so much more.” Alongside him, Antonio Gimeno, Rosa Romero and Dani Oliveras finished in 24th, 67th and 70th place, respectively.
Just one week on from savouring the victory, the team is taking stock and already working towards the 2017 race. “We achieved these results because we worked very hard over the past year. The team is not just the riders, but also the support staff and everyone else who worked tirelessly. HIMOINSA Racing Team started from humble roots and our riders reflect that. There are no rivalries, no clashing egos. Team spirit is at the core of the team, because everyone learns from everyone else,” concludes Miguel Puertas, Team Manager.
HIMOINSA, a global corporation that designs, manufactures and distributes power generation equipment, sponsors the team in conjunction with Yanmar, a manufacturer of diesel engines, construction and agricultural machinery, power systems, marine engines and other components. HIMOINSA Racing Team's Dakar adventure started a decade ago when HIMOINSA sponsored the rider Miguel Puertas. After taking part in nine editions of the rally with excellent performances, the decision was made in 2015 to make the leap and create a private team to tackle the race from a new perspective. The results at Dakar 2016 met the team's expectations and far exceeded the goals set in the previous race.
HIMOINSA has been committed to this project from the beginning. “The Dakar rally is a major event in the Americas. Our market in Latin America is growing all the time and we want to keep growing. That is why we need to be there; supporting sports with values that are shared by our company. Sportsmanship, excellence, power;that is what we sell to the world and it's something that the riders, who cover thousands of miles on their bikes, have in spades. And they showed it in this race,” said Francisco Gracia, Executive Director of HIMOINSA.
