    Third Edition of ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC2200 - By EJ LeBlanc – HIPOWER SYSTEMS’ Director of Engineering 

    HIPOWER SYSTEMS is proud to announce the successful certification of ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC STD 2200:220 Ed.3 + R05Sep2025 for our full Heavy Duty Industrial (HDI, HNI & HRNG Series) and HS-Stationary (HSY & HSF) product range.

    What’s New and Why It Matters

    The 3rd edition of UL 2200 is now recognized in both the United States and Canada, allowing a single C-UL-US mark to satisfy certification requirements in both countries. This simplifies product selection for engineers and project managers.

    The new certification introduces rigorous 3rd-party functional safety, risk, and hazard analysis based on ISO 12100. Manufacturers and specifying engineers must now address potential hazards—such as electric shock, rotating parts, overcurrent, and fuel shutoff—while implementing protective safety measures. 

    Key updates in the 3rd edition include:

    • New guarding, material specifications, and electrical/fuel line spacing requirements. 
    • Updated safety decals and manuals. 
    • Enhanced safety testing, including fuel valve flow, intake backfire deflector, and exhaust backfire tests. 
    • Advanced control system requirements for software and firmware, including compliance for UL6200-listed controllers, ensuring generator control safety—critical as remote access and diagnostics become more prevalent.
